  • Women’s Elite Rugby (WER) is now accepting applications for General Manager of Team Business Operations to lead one of the teams in our inaugural 6 markets, Boston, Chicago, Denver, New York, San Francisco/Bay Area/Northern CA, and the Twin Cities. Candidates must be excited to work in a startup league while building the foundation for the future.

    WER is the newest women’s professional league on the US landscape. Formed as a single-entity league, WER is focused on delivering an entertaining brand of rugby to the US market and providing the highest standard of rugby available to our players. 

    In collaboration with WER Leadership, the General Manager is an execution-driven ‘doer’ who owns how the entire WER experience in their market comes to life.  In addition to owning the team revenue generation, this role drives the execution of supporting initiatives such as marketing, ticketing, partnerships and other commercial strategies with a local market lens. Collaborating with the functional teams at WER that includes marketing, partnerships and fan engagement will be necessary to bring the best possible experience to life for fans. 

    Specific Duties: Lead and oversee the business operations of one of the six markets (Boston, Chicago, Denver, Minnesota, New York, San Francisco/Bay Area/Northern CA) to deliver a successful and sustainable professional rugby team; Lead the team revenue generation through execution of commercial initiatives; Maximize commercial opportunities for the team that ensures financial sustainability, such as team specific sales and marketing, and merchandising strategies, including sourcing and supporting sponsors and commercial partners according to WER guidelines; Lead and develop a 3-5 person business operations team (part-time and volunteers) executing the local market experiences for both players and fans, Effectively develop relationships within the community to strengthen and expand the team’s reputation, civic engagement and commercial success. 

    It is expected that the successful candidate will abide by all written policies and procedures of Women’s Elite Rugby.

    Required Minimum Qualifications

    • BA/BS in Sport Management, Business, or other applicable degree.

    • 2-4 years of progressive leadership in a multifaceted sports organization or similar high paced environment.

    • Proven ability to grow fanbase and revenue at a local market level.

    • Experience with strategic planning and implementation in sports and/or entertainment. 

    • Effective communicator, comfortable providing direct feedback, and experience leading and communicating within high pace and pressure environments

    • Collaborator, effective listener and solution-oriented

    • Ability to be a self-starter and work independently in a startup environment.

    Preferred Qualifications: Masters in Sport Management, Business, or other applicable degree; 5-7 years of leadership experience, start-up experience, and knowledgeable about the US rugby ecosystem.

  • Women’s Elite Rugby (WER) is now accepting applications for Assistant Coaches to support team operations in our inaugural 6 markets: Boston, Chicago, Denver, New York, San Francisco Bay Area, and the Twin Cities. Candidates must be excited to work in a startup league while supporting the foundation for the future.

    WER is a single-entity, professional women's rugby union competition focused on delivering an entertaining brand of rugby to the US market and providing the highest standard of rugby available to our players. All teams are centrally owned, providing operational efficiencies and shared best practice among its member teams.

    In collaboration with the Head Coach and Team Management, the Assistant Coach will support the development and execution of team strategy, player development, and game-day operations. The Assistant Coach will focus on specific technical areas of the game while supporting the overall team culture and vision established by the Head Coach.

    Specific Duties: Leadership (Support team vision, values, standards, and protocols established by the Head Coach and WER, Model team values and standards, Build strong relationships with players and staff); Technical Coaching (Lead specific technical areas as assigned, Design position-specific training sessions, Provide detailed technical feedback); Team Preparation (Assist in training plans, Support strength and conditioning programs, Contribute to game plan development); Player Development (Provide regular feedback, Support player leadership development); Game Day Operations (Support match day protocols, Provide real-time technical feedback, Assist in managing tactical changes).

    Required Minimum Qualifications:

    • High school diploma (or equivalent)

    • World Rugby L1 Certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)

    • 2+ years coaching experience at senior club level or higher

    • Demonstrated expertise in at least one specific area of the game

    • Must be eligible to work within the United States

    • Must pass all customary background checks

    • Safesport Certification (or ability to obtain within 1 month of hire)

    • CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)

    • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (or equivalent experience)

    • World Rugby L2 Certification

    • Playing experience at high performance level

    • Previous experience in professional rugby environment

    • Demonstrated success in player development

    • Experience with video analysis software and performance analysis tools

  • As a Marketing Intern for the WER, you will be expected to support our Marketing Team in making posts, interacting with fans/followers, and maintaining current, accurate information about the league throughout our various platforms. This role involves brainstorming and implementing creative ways to grow the WER as we promote the inaugural season and expand our fan base.

    Knowledge of various social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok, etc.) is essential, as is a willingness to learn new programs as needed. As a WER Marketing Intern, you must be self-motivated and able to work independently on projects. Timeliness and consistent communication with team members is required. All members of the WER are expected to have a passion for creating an inclusive, joyful space for where professional women’s rugby can grow and succeed. 

    Key Responsibilities

    Regularly post on our social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tik Tok, etc.)

    • Interns will be expected to follow a regular schedule of posts during preseason and regular season. This includes, but is not limited to, roster announcements, a season schedule, game results, game day match-ups, recognition of individual teams/players/sponsors, and preseason or in-season campaigns.

    Interact with followers and engage with current and prospective fans

    • The WER is dedicated to growing women’s rugby in the United States. This goal includes both recognizing the dedication and love that current fans have put into the sport, and also bringing new fans to the WER and rugby at large. 

    Produce weekly content

    • As an intern, you will be expected to create weekly content for our various platforms. We are always looking for new ways to engage fans and grow the WER, so creativity and new ideas are encouraged. Content will be expected to adhere to the expressed brand of the WER, and interns will be given the space to demonstrate their creativity and explore content creation throughout their tenure. 

    Brainstorm content/campaign ideas

    • Interns are considered a vital part of the WER Marketing Team. They will be expected to generate and share content ideas with the marketing team that adheres to the goals of connecting with followers, uplifting teams/players, and amplifying the WER in the broader world of sports.

    Skills, Abilities & Knowledge - Essential

    • Detail-oriented and able to work both independently and with a team. Excellent time-management skills and a willingness to be open about capacity/realistic project timelines.

    • Able to work remotely and attend weekly virtual team meetings 

    • Excellent written and verbal communication 

    • Passionate about helping grow women's+ sports

    • Comfortable using a variety of social media platforms to produce content, interact with followers, etc.

    • Up-to-date on current social media trends. 

    Skills, Abilities & Knowledge - Desirable

    • Previous social media experience is preferred but not required.
